When support for your children meets the quiet questions about your own years ahead
Peranakan Purse offers a small collection of courses written for parents in their forties and beyond — people who love their children and also want to think carefully about what helping them actually means.
"There is no single right answer to how much a parent should give. But there is real value in thinking it through — before the conversation happens at the dinner table."
Three Courses, Three Letters
Each course is a considered conversation, not a lecture
Thinking Clearly About Support Without Overthinking Love
A first course for parents who have begun to ask quiet questions about helping with education, first homes, or the small costs of early adult life. Offers a calm framework and neutral language for conversations that often feel tender before they feel practical.
- Household-support reflection worksheet
- Values-first conversation guide
- Family-counselling references in Singapore
Structuring Help in Ways That Stay Healthy
For learners who have decided to offer support and want to do so with care and clarity. Covers gifts and loans within a family, stamp duty and CPF considerations, tax and estate implications, and how early giving may sit alongside later inheritance.
- Family-agreement template
- Stamp duty reference table (SG)
- Guide for professional consultations
Holding the Line Without Losing the Warmth
A reflective course for parents facing more complex situations — repeated requests, blended families, or children whose choices differ sharply from their own. Offers frameworks for setting household limits that protect later years without severing the relationship.
- Personal-limits reflection worksheet
- Family meeting agenda template
- Pastoral and counselling resource directory

Common Questions
Questions we hear often
Who are these courses written for, exactly?
Adults in their forties and beyond who have adult children — and who have begun to notice that money questions between generations carry a weight that purely practical advice rarely addresses. You do not need any background in finance; the material is written to be read, not studied.
How are the courses delivered?
Each course arrives as a sequence of weekly readings — short enough to read over a single evening, but considered enough to linger with. Worksheets are included as downloadable files. There are no live sessions, no deadlines, and no reminders sent to your inbox without your asking.
Does the material give me specific legal or financial advice?
No. The courses are descriptive, not advisory. They help you understand the landscape — CPF, stamp duty, estate matters — and prepare you with clear questions to bring to a lawyer or licensed financial adviser. We believe good education helps you have better conversations with professionals, not replace them.
Can I take the courses in any order?
They are designed to be read in sequence — each letter builds on the one before — but many people come to us already mid-conversation with their children and begin at the second or third. We suggest reading the brief overview of each course before choosing your entry point.
What is the payment and refund arrangement?
Payment is by course, in Singapore dollars, at the time of enrolment. If within the first week you feel the course is not well suited to your situation, please write to us and we will consider each request individually. We do not offer automatic refunds after course access has been provided, but we do read every message with care.
Is my information kept private?
Yes. Peranakan Purse collects only what is necessary to deliver your course and respond to your enquiries. We do not share personal data with third parties for marketing, and we comply with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act. Worksheet responses are saved privately on your own device and are never transmitted to us.
